The MM6 Maison Martin Margiela Spring 2015 collection opens with satin. Loungewear? Nope, not with those sophisticated platform sandals. Did I mention the jumbo size shoe laces doubling as straps? Whimsical, to say the least The new collection takes many of its cues from the bedroom. Luckily, I don’t mean that Margiela’s diffusion line has decided to take on the vulgar nature of the “sex sells” philosophy.
I meant the whole bedroom thing literally. Right near the beginning of the show MM6 mesmerizes with a long camisole flowing beneath what I can only describe as the transparent packaging that you would find on a comforter at Bed Bath & Beyond. Without giving you a moment to recover the very next look is the comforter itself, wrapped as a shawl around a beautiful silk skirt and top. At first we were caught off guard, but then the concept solidified in my mind. After looking through the rest of the collection you will find that it has a verging-on-cute beauty and playfulness.
The patina and hue from the tan suede looks amazing paired with the soft white and airy denim pieces. It’s something of a fanciful re-imagining Scandinavian of country/cottage-wear. To me, it looks like they’ve created one of the cutest pieces of the year, with their embroidered and quilted vest. Those power sandals in black pair beautifully with MM6′s cropped leather trousers (which are to die for!). We also loved the silk satin suits, coats, and vests but we couldn’t say the same about the prints and bandana prints. It just wasn’t our style in this presentation, but maybe you guys can change our mind. We’ll keep an eye out. Overall it’s an awesome, quirky collection that successfully explores itself while remaining wearable and bold.
